WBU students inducted into honor society

Kappa Delta Pi inducteesPLAINVIEW -- Wayland Baptist University recently held an induction ceremony for new members into Kappa Delta Pi, an international educational honor society. Seventeen new members were inducted into the group.

Chapter president Keitha Tyler, a Wayland senior, and chapter counselor Dr. Patricia Herman, professor of education, conducted the ceremony along with other current members and officers.

              Membership in Kappa Delta Pi requires students to education majors with at least sophomore status and a grade point average of at least 3.0. Members are involved in community events and educational service projects. Recently, the group sponsored "Operation Valentine," in which local first- and second-graders created valentines for the elderly residents of local nursing home facilities. A project is also planned during April for Reading is Fundamental Week.

              New inductees into Kappa Delta Pi included Dr. Yvonne LaMar and Suzanne Nesmith, both assistant professors of education at Wayland; Elizabeth Wyatt, Paige Johnson, Meg Mansdoerfer, Sarah Martin, Colleen Trevithick, Tonja Edens, Kelli Howard, Laura Valles, Britany Lewis, Malissa Johnston, Janelle Powers, Jennifer Casteneda, Erika Bryant, Resa Uptergrove and Jennifer Herrin.
