Wayland opens national testing center at vance AFB

November 29, 2010

ENID, Okla. – Wayland Baptist University has assumed operation of a National Testing Center for college credits at Vance Air Force Base.

Located in Building 314, Suite 6, at 446 McAffrey Avenue, the testing center offers service personnel as well as civilian access to a variety of computerized exams for college credit, including DSST (formerly known as DANTES Subject Standardized Tests) and CLEP exams. The center also offers proctored exams for students attending any university and non-U.S. Air Force Professional Military Education exams.

“One major advantage to our becoming a National Test Center is that with the computerized DSST and CLEP exams, examinees will get their scores right away – no more waiting 4-6 weeks,” said Jennifer Waide, testing administrator. “In fact, the whole process is just much easier.”

Waide added that the center will soon administer Excelsior exams as well as a host of other exams available through the PearsonVUE system.

Tests are offered at noon on Wednesdays and at 9 a.m. on Thursdays and Fridays. The center is open to civilians, but those without base access must request a pass at least 72 hours in advance of their test date.

CLEP exams are $77 and DSST exams are $80 for all individuals except active duty military taking these exams for the first time. For non-active duty military and students of other universities, a $20 administrative fee is charged for the two exams. Proctored university exams are $20 per course for anyone who is not a current Wayland student. Exam fees for CLEP and DSST are paid by credit card on the computer at the time of testing. Administrative fees to Wayland are due to the Vance office at least 7 days before testing if paying by credit card or personal check.  Payment on the day of exam may be made in the form of cash, money order or cashier’s check.

The Wayland Vance office recently donated a set of CLEP and DSST study materials to the Vance Air Force Base library in order to assist students in preparing for tests in such disciplines as English composition and literature, history, math, social sciences, economics, humanities, Spanish, science, computers and business. DSST tests also cover the disciplines of criminal justice, education, counseling and public speaking. For a list of specific tests offered, visit the Vance campus Web site at www.wbu.edu/vance.

The Vance office of Wayland is an extension of the Altus Campus, one of 13 campuses the university runs as external locations from its headquarters in Plainview, Texas. Founded in 1908, Wayland prides itself on offering quality education within a Christian environment to non-traditional and traditional students in various formats for accessibility. The university has been partnering with the military since 1972 and is located on several military bases and installations nationwide.
