April 8, 2010

PLAINVIEW – Wayland Baptist University Piano Artist in Residence Mark Pair will perform his spring concert at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, April 12, in Wayland’s Harral Memorial Auditorium. Admission to the performance is free and open to the public.

Themed “Famous Piano Classics,” Pair has selected various compositions that represent a survey of some of the best-loved classics in piano literature. Among them is “Clair de Lune” by French composer Claude Debussy, one of Pair’s favorites. He will also perform “Liebestraum” by Hungarian composer Franz Liszt, and three pieces by Chopin, “Military Polonaise,” “Nocturne in E-flat” and the “Minute Waltz.” Pair will also play pieces by Bach, Beethoven and Brahms, including the “Moonlight Sonata” movement, prelude and waltz, as well as the Rachmaninoff “Prelude in C-Sharp Minor.”

Pair was named Piano Artist in Residence upon his retirement from Wayland in 2002. He has played two concerts per year since his retirement. This will be his 86th concert on the WBU campus.
