PLAINVIEW – Plainview High School senior Mark Cunningham will perform a piano recital on Sunday, May 23, in the Miller Recital Hall in Wayland Baptist University’s Harral Auditorium. Cunningham is a student of Jeannine Greene who teaches piano for Wayland’s Academy of Fine Arts.

Mark Cunningham Cunningham, the son of Janet and Dr. Tom Cunningham, will perform pieces by composers Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Schubert and Copland. A talented pianist who has been playing since he was a young child, Greene said Cunningham can play pieces that she’s never had students play before in her more than 50 years as a teacher.

Among his accomplishments, Cunningham has received the Paderewski gold medal for playing a 10-piece program in the National Piano Playing Auditions for 10 years, earning superior ratings. He has also received superior ratings for his performances in the Pastoral Festival, sponsored by the National Federated Music Clubs.

At Plainview High School, Cunningham serves as president of the National Honor Society and vice president of the Youth Advisory Council. He is the drum captain for the Powerhouse of the Plains drum line and a member of the Plainview A Cappella Choir. Cunningham also serves on the HCSB student board of directors and the Junior American Cancer Society. He will attend Baylor in the fall.

Admission to Cunningham’s recital is free and open to the public.
