Collegiate wrestling squares off in The Hutch

PLAINVIEW – Wayland Baptist University will get its first taste of intercollegiate wrestling Thursday night as the men’s and women’s wrestling teams square off in intra-squad action at 7 p.m. in Wayland’s Hutcherson Center.

Women WreswtlersAlthough the teams have already participated in dual meets, this will be the first official collegiate wrestling performance on the Wayland campus. Wayland began competing in the intercollegiate wrestling this fall as the only college or university in the state of Texas to offer competitive collegiate wrestling.

              Thursday’s event will feature teammates facing off to determine seeding for the upcoming meets. Head coach Johnny Cobb will offer some commentary to help explain the sport to those in attendance. WBU students will also have the chance to win prizes throughout the evening. The first 150 people in attendance will receive a free Wayland t-shirt.

              Everyone who would like to learn more about the sport of wrestling is invited to attend. Admission is free and open to the public.
