Education honor society collecting school supplies for kids

February 18, 2011

PLAINVIEW --  Wayland Baptist University’s Kappa Delta Pi education honor society is sponsoring a school supplies drive for a Plainview ISD elementary campus, running through Saturday, Feb. 26.

The drive is underway with drop-off sites at the Van Howeling Education Complex, located at 8th and Quincy Street and in the student activities office on the second floor of the McClung University Center.

The group will also have a collection site at the doubleheader basketball games held during homecoming weekend on Saturday, beginning at 2 p.m. with the Flying Queens matchup against John Brown.

Items of particular need include glue sticks, pencil-top erasers, crayons and tissues. The donated items will benefit students at Thunderbird Elementary in Plainview.

“We wanted to do a community project that really helps schools in need,” said Holly Owens, a senior education major and the KDP president. “This is the time of year where schools are really in need of supplies, and Thunderbird is really excited about the help. We’re hoping this drive will get the teachers through May.”
