PLAINVIEW -- Wayland Baptist University’s Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) and Campbell’s have teamed up to “Can Hunger.” The SIFE team set a goal of collecting 5,000 pounds of non-perishable food items to benefit Plainview’s Faith in Sharing House and Hunger Plus.

KKYN will join SIFE on Saturday, March 3, for a live remote broadcast at Wal Mart from 1-2 p.m. to collect non-perishable food items to benefit the food drive. The broadcast will be set up between the garden center and south entrance at Wal Mart. People are encouraged to drop off food items or make a monetary donation to the “Can Hunger” drive. According to SIFE faculty sponsor Dr. Sam Van Hoose, $1 equals 1 pound of food.

SIFE began the drive in December and has already collected 2,500 pounds of food. Van Hoose said they are hoping Saturday’s drive will complete their 5,000-pound goal.

According to the World Health Organization 15 million children worldwide die each year of hunger, and 1-in-12 people are malnourished, including 160 million children under the age of 5. In order to reach the 5,000-pound goal, SIFE has set up collection boxes at businesses around town including: Amigos, United Supermarkets, Wells Fargo, American State Bank, CVS Pharmacy and Hale County State Bank.

For more information or to donate, contact Dr. Sam Van Hoose at 291-1029, or SIFE President Hopie DeLeon at 759-1168 or hopie.deleon@Wayland.wbu.edu.
