Miss Wayland pageant features 14 contestants

PLAINVIEW -- Wayland Baptist University will host the Miss Wayland 2015 scholarship pageant Saturday, November 15, at 7 p.m. in Harral Memorial Auditorium. Admission is $3.

With a theme of Putting on the Glitz, the evening will feature 14 young ladies competing in talent, evening gown and interview competitions. Serving as judges for the event will be Plainview Mayor Wendell Dunlap, former lifestyles editor for the Plainview Herald Nicki Bruce Logan, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce Linda Morris, and Wayland alums John and Diana Trischitti of Midland.

The contestants are:

Kelsi Crawford

Kelsi Crawford is a junior from Ranger, majoring in elementary and special education. Crawford is representing the Wayland Singers chorus. Upon graduation, she hopes to teach and open a dance studio and gym for children with special needs. Crawford will dance as her talent presentation.

Alyssa Hottmann

Alyssa Hotmann, a junior elementary education major from Amarillo. Hotmann is minoring in children’s ministry and hopes to pursue children’s ministry as a career. She is representing Kappa Delta Pi and will perform an interpretive dance as her talent.

Laura Garrison

Laura Garrison is a junior from Lakeside, Ariz. She is majoring in mathematics with minors in pre-engineering and graphic design. She hopes to one day work as an animation designer and program creator for movies. Garrison is sponsored by Wayland’s chapter of the Mathematics Association of America and will sing as her talent.

Shaina Beasley

Shaina Beasley is a junior from Artesia, N.M., majoring in religion with a business minor. She hopes to one day own a Christian sports camp where she can work with youth. Beasley is sponsored by the Dean of Student’s Office and will perform a motivational speech as her talent.

Kylee Jo Schults

KyLee Jo Shultz is a sophomore from Sudan. She is majoring in fitness management and composition with a specialization in sports science rehabilitation. Shultz hopes to be an example of Christ in whatever career she pursues. She is sponsored by the Office of Property Management and will sing as her talent.

Krist Ann Duffield

 

Krista Ann Duffield is a junior from Childress. She is a molecular biology major with a minor in chemistry. Sponsored by the Student Chapter of the American Chemical Society, Duffield hopes to become a physician’s assistant in a pediatric or family clinic. She also wants to work with kids through youth ministry. Duffield will sing as her talent.

Kendra Castillo-Bates Kendra Rashon Castillo-Bates is a sophomore from Amarillo majoring in justice administration with a minor in music. Castillo-Bates hopes to attend law school and become a federal judge.

Sponsored by the Wayland Jazz Ensemble, she will read one of her original writings as her talent.

Tye Brantley

Tye Brantley is a sophomore from College Parks, GA. She is majoring in psychology with a minor in theatre and music. Brantley wants to become a child psychiatrist. She will dance as her talent, and is sponsored by Enactus in the School of Business.

Stormy Mack

Stormy Mack is a junior English major from Fort Worth. Sponsored by the School of Education and Student Senate, she hopes to become a published author and encourage children to be creative throughout their lives. She will perform sign language to music as her talent.

Ashley Teague

Ashley Teague is a junior from Lubbock majoring in religious education with a minor in business administration. She wants to work with children and youth through a church-based ministry and will sing as her talent presentation. Teague is sponsored by Baptist Student Ministries.

Chloe Manning

Chloe Manning is a junior biology major and psychology minor from Canyon. Her future ambition is to become a physical therapist and go on medical missions. Manning will be singing for her talent presentation. Chloe is representing the Student Union Board.

Ashley Price

Ashley Price is a senior from Allison. She is an honors student majoring in religion and intercultural missions. She hopes to one day work as a missionary to poverty stricken people groups, teaching them business principles and how to become self-supporting. She will present a Christian rap in the talent portion of the pageant. Price is sponsored by the University Store.

Sarah Van Der Linden

Sarah Van Der Linden is a junior from Lincoln, Calif. An English major with a minor in media communications, Van Der Linden is representing the Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society. After earning her bachelor’s degree she hopes to continue her education earning a master’s and eventually Ph.D. in post-modern literary theory. She hopes to one day teach and write collegiately. Van Der Linden will sing as her talent presentation.

Tamyra Mensah

Tamyra Mensah is a senior from Katy. A member of the Pioneer wrestling team, Mensah is majoring in exercise and sport science with a minor in sports medicine and business management. Her talent will include interpretive wrestling with spoken dialogue. Her future goals include wrestling in the Olympics and becoming a physical therapist. She also wants to graduate with a 3.0 grade-point average, or better.
